PEZ was started in Austria by Edward Haas came up with a new peppermint candy in 1927. PEZ was originally created as an adult breath mint that was an alternative for smoking. The German word Pfefferminz, which means peppermint. They took the 1st , middle and last letters and created the word PEZ. Pez Is Short and easy so everyone can understand it. PEZ did not always come with a dispenser, it used to be carried in pocket tins. Then in 1948 PEZ came out with a dispenser, what we all know as the regular. In 1952 PEZ expanded to the U.S.A.. To make their product more appealing to us, they placed heads on the dispensers and marketed it for kids. The U.S.A. factory was built in Orange, Ct in 1973.
